For my info pack I would like to look further into a few of the main printing techniques, for example, screen printing laser cut and foiling. I would like to experiment with different techniques and hopefully produce an info pack using a number of them.

OUGD 504 - Logo

Ive always liked the playstation logo ever since I was younger, I don't know whether this is due to the connotations that surround it, but there is always something Ive liked about it. Its one of the most instantly recognisable logos particularly in the gaming world, but also in a greater sense.

When it was first designed in the 90s the designers wanted to use colours that symbolised joy, passion and excellence, these colours can be seen represented as the blue, green and yellow colours. Below is 20 other proposed logos by Manabu Sakamoto who's a famous japanese designer who also created the Sony Viao logo. The typeface was also specially created to fit well with the logo, its simple yet in keeping with the technological side of the brand.

The Amazon logo is a very good logo in my opinion due the uses of lots of hidden meanings. It uses an arrow below the word amazon that points from A to Z which basically shows they transport good fast and efficiently. The arrow also doubles up as a smile which suggests happy customers. The colour of the arrow is also significant in the way it suggests a premium service, by its colour being gold. The typeface would have also been carefully selected in the sense it needed to be simple to fit with the whole brand identity.

I think Quicksilver has a good logo that embodies the brand image well. The type face thats is often coupled with the logo as seen above suggests quite a rugged brand by use of a stencil style full caps typeface. The image in the logo also gives you an idea of what the brand sells. The wave suggests surfing, the mountain suggests snowboarding/skiing and then you could also use the inside of the wave as a half pipe which suggests skateboarding. The use of red also suggests extreme sports and in a sense danger.

I don't go to Starbucks ever and don't often think about the logo, when considering which logos to choose for this I came across it and it isn't immediately obvious the relevance of the picture to the company. Looking a bit further into its history you can see the thought process behind the image choice. The image is a reference to a siren, an old mystical sea creature that embodied a nautical theme which goes back to the origins of the shipping of coffee to Seattle. The logo doesn't so much embody the brand identity its more an embodiment of the companies heritage.

They have changed their logo over the years but still kept the original brand identity, the original colour was brown I imagine to fit in the image of coffee. Later the colour changed to green I feel to promote the idea of green healthy living and an environmentally sound product.

The Unilever logo is an interesting logo because its a company that looks after lots of different companies, within its logo each image is a representative for an aspect which the company deals in. For example the bee represents creation, bio-diversity and hard work. Bees also symbolise environmental challenges and opportunities.
